Second year undergraduate Event Management students completed their live events for the module Event Planning. The module provides students with real life experience and the opportunity to plan and stage an event of their choice. It is a year long effort, from concept development to event evaluation. The group presented their event concept ideas in Semester 1 to Mark Breen of Cuckoo Events and module tutor Ruth Craggs and from January to April staged their events. Working in teams of 4-6, they have been responsible for every aspect of the event from setting the objectives, working with venues and suppliers, securing sponsorship and ticket sales, managing staff and volunteers and promoting the event. The class has raised over €10,000 for charity in profit from the following events:
'Strictly Come Dancing' (Parnell GAA Club House), 'DIT does Take Me Out' (Kevin Street DIT), 'Event Panel Discussion' (Bank of Ireland Grand Canal Square), 'DJ Competition' (South William Bar), 'Coffee Afternoon and Talk/Student Mental Health' (Black Box Theatre, Aungier Street), 'Karaoke Night' (Grand Social Club), 'Carnival de Nuit' (the Generator, Smithfield) and 'Female Empowerment' (the Arlington Hotel). Well done to the class!
