Gerry Dunne

Gerard Dunne PhD, MBS, worked for a number of years with Fáilte Ireland in Japan.  He has undertaken research projects for the British Tourism Authority and Dublin Tourism and has contributed to marketing plans for various tourism businesses.  He lectures in Tourism Marketing and coordinates the MSc Tourism Management programme in DIT.

  • Urban Tourism - particularly the demand for city break travel and the attitudes and behaviour of urban tourists.
  • Tourism Marketing – in particular, how the tourism product is distributed, the usage of intermediaries, distribution strategies implemented by tourism suppliers and the phenomenon of disintermediation.
  • Carrying capacity of destinations and attractions – the indicators of carrying capacity, and the visitor management techniques available to tourism planners and managers.
  • Implementation of an annual visitor survey for Dublin City
  • Study of the city break market into Dublin
