Tom Flanagan - Head of Commercialisation

HH Tom - BW Tom currently leads Hothouse, the award winning Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).  Hothouse helps more than thirty knowledge intensive start-up companies launch each year and won the Shell Livewire Award for Services to Enterprise.  Tom runs workshops and clinics at Hothouse and has commercialised leading edge research, winning several high profile technology transfer licences with companies such as SONY, Sherman Williams, ABB and General Paints.  He lectures part-time in innovation and entrepreneurship on masters programmes and is a business consultant to several established businesses. Tom is also on the board of Dublin City Enterprise Board and several high tech companies.   

Prior to joining DIT, Tom was Nortel’s Regional Vice President for Canada and Central US for Professional Services.Prior to that, he built successful business and technical consulting practices in the US and held senior positions in sales, marketing, product management and product design. 

Tom started his career as an engineer and has a number of patents in telecommunications including one for survivable fibre optic rings that he championed to become the worldwide standard. Tom graduated at UCD, completed an MSc. at Aston University, UK and an MBA at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago.
