  • Area: ICT

Who: DIT's Audio Research Group (ARG) and  Cork Institute of Technology (CIT)

Project title: Interactive Music Archive Access System (IMAAS) Who: DIT’s Centre for Research in Engineering Surface Technology (CREST) in conjunction with the National Centre for Sensor Research (NSCR) in Dublin City University (DCU)

Researchers at DIT in conjunction with Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) have developed IMAAS which enables improved searching using ‘musical’ queries such as tempo, instrument type, key signature and time signature, allowing users to search for music in a ‘musical way’. The user can interact with the audio content to separate instruments or voices, change the tempo and key and reduce the amount of hiss and crackle on a piece of music. More information

    Area: Material Science

Project title: Chromate Free Sol-Gel Coating for Aluminium

Researchers at DIT’s Centre for Research in Engineering Surface Technology (CREST) in conjunction with the National Centre for Sensor Research (NSCR) in Dublin City University (DCU) have invented a sol-gel coating that can be used as a pre-treatment or primer. T he coating (5um) is considerably thinner than chromium free primers (50um) which reduces the amount of fuel consumed and leads to cost savings of €63,800 for a typical commuter jet.
