January Inventor of the Month Winners

Congratulations to DIT undergraduate students Ronan Hand, Dominic Tokarski, Remo Dobler and Shane Brennan, winners of the DIT Inventor of the Month Competition Inventor of the Month Competition for January.

The students have been developing Metronome - a smart storage system for restaurants and eateries designed to reduce food wastage through early warning of food expiration times.The students are from the cross-disciplinary DIT Product Design programme, based in the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering. They have prepared a business plan centred on the Metronome product which they have entered in to the DIT/Docklands Innovation Awards, to be held in the coming weeks across the various DIT campus locations.

By submitting details of Metronome to DIT Hothouse, the inventors were awarded a €250 One-for-All gift voucher after their idea was judged to be the best DIT invention in January.

Our partners in IADT Dun Laoghaire and National College of Ireland (NCI) also awarded local Inventor prizes in January.

Congratulations to:

• IADT Students Cathal O'Sullivan and Keith O'Malley who developed Gametionary - a search and recommendation engine to help users find video games and to help game developers promote their content; and

• NCI student Keith Milton who developed Cloaked - a mobile app that takes care of cloakroom ticketing for venues.

For your chance to win a €250 prize voucher, simply complete the DIT Invention Disclosure Form 2015 and return this to hothouse@dit.ie by Monday, February 29th.

All entries will be scored on their originality, benefits, market potential, and development/ commercialisation feasibility. Please read the Inventor of the Month 2015 Terms and Conditions‌‌ before submitting an entry. Successful applicants will be notified by telephone and the winners announced via the DIT Hothouse website in November. Applicants should make sure that their idea/invention is not already on the market. Staff and Students from partner institutions should consult their local technology transfer/industrial liaison office for application details.

About the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium

The Inventor of the Month Competition is open to all staff and students of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin (ITTD), Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB), the Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Dun Laoghaire (IADT) and National College of Ireland (NCI). The five institutions comprise the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium (DRIC) which is funded by Enterprise Ireland to maximise the impact of research in each of the institutions. DIT Hothouse, the technology transfer office at DIT, provides knowledge transfer and commercialisation support to all members of the consortium.
