DIT Hothouse hosted a Researcher Workshop, Commercialising Technologies - From Collaborations to Technology Transfer, in The Courtyard, DIT Aungier St. on Wednesday, 16th March.

With a sizeable attendance on the day, this workshop proved to be of great interest and highly informative to all. The event was open to researchers, staff and students of DIT as well as those of our Dublin Region Innovation Consortium (DRIC) partners.

The workshop was organised by DeepWater Training and delivered by Dr. John McManus, a leading expert on Intellectual Property and Licensing. The following topics were covered in detail on the day:

Managing IP in Collaborative Projects

The course will began by highlighting the need to carefully manage IP created in collaborative projects, such as Horizon 2020 and other research consortia, so that the creators secure sufficient scope to take the IP forward to commercialisation.

The Technology Transfer Process

The technology transfer process was explained and case studies presented to illustrate the process involved in transferring an inventory of technology to a potential licensee for evaluation.

The Technology Transfer Package

The preparation of an inventory of items required to perform a successful transfer of technology and the process involved were illustrated using examples.

About the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium

The Inventor of the Month Competition is open to all staff and students of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin (ITTD), Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB), the Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Dun Laoghaire (IADT) and National College of Ireland (NCI). The five institutions comprise the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium (DRIC) which is funded by Enterprise Ireland to maximise the impact of research in each of the institutions. DIT Hothouse, the technology transfer office at DIT, provides knowledge transfer and commercialisation support to all members of the consortium.
