Knowledge Foundation visit DIT

Last week, DIT President Professor Brian Norton and Professor Ellen Hazelkorn, Director of Research & Enterprise welcomed delegates from The Swedish Knowledge Foundation. The Foundation whose aim is to develop Sweden’s ability to create value and promote cooperation between the business community, higher education institutes and research institutions were visiting Ireland on a knowledge crusade. They were here to learn about our national R&D action plan and the building of knowledge economy.

The delegation fronted by Madelene Sandström, Chief Executive of the Foundation were looking at educational institutions in Ireland where collaboration between institutes and industries are central to success and a key driver of growth.

Examples of DIT’s strong relations with industry were given by Professor Ellen Hazelkorn who presented on DIT’s research strategy, themes and targets. Professor Hazelkorn also gave a brief overview of  the Department of Research and Enterprise (DRE) units including Hothouse, The Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre, Graduate Research School and Professional Development Services. Other presenters included Charlie Pritchard who spoke about the work of DIT’s Digital Media Centre and Dr Mary McNamara, who outlined research at the Focas Research Institute.

The delegates who were in Ireland for a few days hope to grow partnerships and establish relations with DIT for some time to come.
