Daft.ie co-founder inspires DIT students
Eamonn Fallon, co-founder of property website, Daft.ie was the key-note speaker at the third ‘Be Inspired. Be an entrepreneur’ event in DIT Aungier Street.

An enthusiastic audience of 150 students was in attendance to hear Eamonn describe how he and his brother grew daft.ie from a simple idea at the kitchen table into one of Ireland most successful online stories.
Last year the site had over 500,000 visitors. In addition to the substantial lettings listing on the site, nine out of every ten properties put up for sale in Ireland last year were listed on Daft.ie.
The company has acquired other titles to join Daft Media Group including property.ie, rent.ie and boards.ie aiming to increase their internet audience.
Eamonn had these following three tips for aspiring entrepreneurs;
- Be 100% focussed on the business at hand
- Understand your core values and price yourself correctly
- Make yourself an expert, authentic content can lead to free publicity and editorial
The ‘Be Inspired. Be an entrepreneur” series of presentations are organised by DIT Hothouse in collaboration with Dublin City Enterprise Board (DCEB). Before the keynote speaker, host Conaill O’Morain of the Today FM interviewed two entrepreneurs Derek Quinn from newaddress.ie and Ciaran Crean from micksgarage.ie who both came through the Hothouse Venture programme.
Derek completed the Hothouse programme in 2005 and highly recommended it to those starting a business or looking for advice on how to start. He is a serial entrepreneur with online businesses including snaggingLists.ie, fundraisingboxes.ie, myaddress.ie and movieextras.ie.

Ciaran Crean from Ireland’s leading online retailer of car parts and accessories, micksgarage.ie is a graduate of DIT Kevin Street. The company currently lists an estimated 50,000 car parts and accessories on its websites and delivers products throughout Europe. They are now expanding into the UK.
The DCEB/Hothouse Be Inspired. Be an entrepreneur’ series will be returning in 2009.
