Brody Sweeney from the well-known O’Briens/Café Bar Deli Franchise Group is an experienced entrepreneur, who brought his business from a single Sandwich Bar to a chain of more than 300 outlets in 15 countries, after years of losses. Sweeney went on to say that people who are successful in business usually do these three ‘P’s’ better than those who don’t get involved;
- Take personal responsibility
- Be prepared to do what it takes
- Always have a plan and just ‘Do it.’
Brody emphasised that successful businesses are defined by ‘doing one thing really well’ and it is mediocrity that is the killer in business. As he took centre stage and he ended with the appropriate tagline ‘Just do it’. Don’t just talk about it, there is nothing better than ACTION to make things happen!
The event was chaired by Conall O’Morain, presenter of the Sunday Business Show, on Today FM. The seminars are organised by DIT Hothouse in collaboration with Dublin City Enterprise Board (DCEB) under the title “Be Inspired. Be an entrepreneur” are proving to be a hit with students, staff and the general public.

Before the keynote speaker, O’Morain interviewed two entrepreneurs Kevin Neary, GameStop and Niall Harbison, ifoods, both who came through the Hothouse business start-up programme.
Kevin Neary founder of GameStop who sold out to in 2003 to a massive US corporation said that he is proud of his success especially his staff. GameStop is all about the people, our shop floor staff worked their way up to management feel that they are a huge part of the success and growth of the business.
Niall Haribson, founder of ifoods.tv and professional chef who has cooked for Bill Gates, U2 and Victoria Beckham talked about his start-up experience.
Niall featured on the hit BBC TV’s programme Dragon’s Den maintained that in many ways the experience prepared him for anything. Starting out making hand-held videos Niall saw a gap in the market and launched ifoods.tv; a fantastic free online video recipe website with a social community for food lovers.
Yet again another very inspiring event, encouraging entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs to get out there and in the words of Brody Sweeney simply ‘JUST DO IT’
All our events will be available via podcast and video on the dit website shortly after each event.
