Hothouse Officially Launched
Hothouse, the award winning Innovation & Technology Transfer Centre at DIT, was officially launched by Dr. Jimmy Devins Minister of State for Science and Innovation and President of DIT, Prof Brian Norton at a recent function in DIT Aungier Street.

Guest speakers at the event included Dr. Claire Penny, IBM Worldwide PM Green Integrated Supply Chain, Sean Foley, Microsoft Head of Developer & Platform Group, Mr Ciaran Connell MD DecaWave and Dr. Ivan Coulter MD Sigmoid Bio Technologies.
A number of DIT researchers who have recently been successful in commercialising their research were recognised with an award presented by Minister Devins and President Norton. The award winners included Niall Stobie who has developed an anti-bacterial Coating for General Paints; James Loughman for his work on Macular Pigment Supplement research for B&L; Max Ammann for Ultra-Wideband Antenna for DecaWave, Dan Barry - Audio Processing for Trezur , Andrew Deegan of Breakout Gaming Concepts and Dr Mark Davis - Dr Mark Davis - Communications Network Research Institute (CNRI).

Since its establishment Hothouse has assisted several entrepreneurs start and grow businesses based on DIT research and has assisted DIT colleagues and students commercialise their intellectual property. DIT recently introduced a radical new policy on Intellectual Property which gives students and staff ownership of their own creative work and research findings. Currently most academic institutions in Ireland and internationally retain ownership of intellectual property developed by their staff or students.

Hothouse, in conjunction with Dublin City Enterprise Board is currently running a series of presentations by leading entrepreneurs. The next presentation in the ‘Be Inspired Be an Entrepreneur’ series is by Eamonn Fallon co-founder of Ireland's largest property website Daft.ie and takes place on Decmber 3rd at 12.30 pm in DIT Aungier Street.
