Your step-by-step guide to the CAO application process, complete with important dates to remember and fees to be paid.
Whatever your reason for coming back to education, updating your skills, gaining a new qualification, achieving a personal goal or ambition, DIT welcomes all mature students. We know it can be daunting, but you are not alone and DIT has a range of supports in place to help you decide what course to take, get through the application process and get settled into college life.
Dublin Institute of Technology welcomes applications from students who are presenting FETAC Level 5 awards and there are around 450 first year places available on Higher Certificate Programmes, Ordinary Degree Programmes and Honours Degree Programmes for such applicants.
These places are in addition to the normal quota of places available to other applicants.
First year applicants must apply through the CAO system www.cao.ie . Applicants should read the guidelines given by CAO carefully and be aware of the deadlines before completing the application process. The initial closing date is 1st February 2012. The only exception to this procedure is applicants to DT598- BA in Visual Art (Sherkin Island) who apply directly to the DIT Admissions Office.
You must apply through www.cao.ie and indicate that you are a FETAC applicant. All FETAC applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements outlined on the following link to be eligible to be considered. Please ensure the FETAC course you are studying is linked with the DIT programme you are interested in.

To qualify as a mature student you must be 23 by the 1st January 2012. You must apply through the CAO system and select the “mature” category on your application. You should forward copies of any relevant supporting documentation you want included with your application to the CAO. Mature students cannot be assessed without supplying additional information with their application. Ideally students should apply by the 1st of February as there are no guarantees that late applications can be considered.
Yes. You can indicate on your CAO application that you are both a FETAC and a mature applicant. As with all FETAC applicants you should ensure your award is linked to the DIT programme you are interested in.

If you have not yet completed your exams you should forward a copy of your results to the CAO as soon as they become available. You should notify Admissions when you do this quoting your CAO number ( admissions@dit.ie).
Students fitting this profile are termed non-standard applicants and apply through the CAO system. You should attach copies of any relevant supporting documentation you want included with your application to the CAO and indicate that you have Further Education. Non-standard applicants cannot be assessed without supplying additional information with their application. Ideally students should apply by the 1st of February as there are no guarantees that late applications can be considered.
