Information Security awareness week is open to all students and staff and will provide an overview of why information security matters to all of us and what we need to do to protect ourselves from identity theft and other IT threats. Awareness seminars will take place in venues across DIT and will provide:
- Simple tips on how to protect yourself at college and at home
- Data protection - the legal implications for a data breach
- Information on how staff can get their DIT laptops encrypted
- Details on how obsolete DIT laptops can support development work in Malawi through Laptops4africa@dit.ie
The schedule for the awareness seminars is listed below and tea/coffee & sandwiches will be provided at each session (excl. 143 Rathmines Road)

There will also be an afternoon seminar on Thursday 21st October running from 2pm-5pm with invited security experts from DIT and industry (including McAfee and Microsoft) who will share their experiences in information security.

This seminar will conclude with a reception where delegates will be able to talk to representatives from the IS Department and School of Computing on the laptop encryption and disposal programmes. Vendor representatives from Ward Solutions, Microsoft and McAfee will also be on hand to provide additional information and show their latest security products
