Microsoft Applications
Most Microsoft Applications such as MS Office, Project, Frontpage etc are available for unlimited installations by a campus licence. The can be downloaded from http://downloads.dit.ie/. Staff are also entitled to install these applications on home PCs provided you comply with the following:
- you will read and abide by the license agreement(s) associated with this Software.
- you understand that no technical support is provided by Microsoft in association with your work-at-home use.
- you understand the minimum specifications to run the Software are listed at http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/default.asp?subid=22 .
- you will remove the Software from your home machine immediately upon the earlier of (a) expiration of the licensed period specified above or (b) the end of your employment by DIT.
- you understand that you are not licensed to use the Software for personal purposes.
New PCs are generally purchased with an Operating System preinstalled by the manufacturer. DITs campus licence agreement with Microsoft allows you to upgrade the Operating System on an existing PC to Windows XP. Windows XP install CDs can be obtained from the support desk on (402)3123
Other Campus AgreementsYes. There are Campus Agreements in place with Symantec, Borland, MathType, Novell, SPSS, StudyMate and Respondus allowing unlimited installation of their products on DIT PCs only. These products can be downloaded from http://downloads.dit.ie.
Software not covered by DIT Campus AgreementsThe higher education institutes have formed a group called CHEST (The Combined Higher Education Software Team of Ireland) with a view to leveraging their collective purchasing power with software vendors. As a member of CHEST DIT is entitled to purchase software at the preferential prices negotiated. If you are purchasing software the best place to search first is http://www.chest.ul.ie/. Members of CHEST Ireland can also avail of pricing that exists between CHEST UK and software vendors. This software is also listed on the web site.
Server Operating Systems
Microsoft Server Operating Systems are not covered by the Campus Licence Agreement and must be purchased seperately. The server OS can either be purchased with the server or from Business and Scientific Services Ltd. Depending on the application for which the server is to be used there are several different licencing options that can apply so it is best to email BSS with your requirements before purchasing.
