Virtual Private Network

Introduction

The Staff VPN (Virtual Private Network) Service permits staff to connect, securely, to Dublin Institute of Technology’s internal network from outside the firewall. (ie:From home, other Institutions or any mobile network.)

Service Description

The Service is provided for current employees or authorised 3rd Party agents acting on behalf of Dublin Institute of Technology requiring remote access to Dublin Institute of Technology’s internal network for work related purposes.

The service will provide secure access from computers connected to the Internet wherever they happen to be.

An approved operating system is required; with sufficient resources available to install and run the Fortinet SSL VPN client software supplied by IS Services.  Staff members are responsible for providing their own Internet connection.

Authorisation is required for third party vendors to use the service and is granted on application to Information Services through an appropriate area manager. The Service is only available to authorised 3rd Party agent clients and is available to DIT staff upon submission of a completed and signed Application Form.

The service operates on a basis of 24hr availability with support available from the IS Service Desk Mon – Fri from 9:00am to 12.30pm and 2.00 to 5:00pm.[1]  In the event of an interruption to the service, maintenance on IS equipment will be carried out, at the first available opportunity, inside normal network & operational schedules.
