Active Directory

Every student and most staff members have an account on active directory which can be used to logon to the network anywhere in the DIT.

Active Directory - ICTDOMAIN

The ICTDOMAIN is a Microsoft Active Directory Domain managed by DIT Information Services.  Active Directory is a centralized and standardized system that automates management of user data, security, and distributed resources, and enables interoperation with other directories. Active Directory is designed especially for distributed networking environments.

The ICTDOMAIN is available in all DIT Library Facilities and most labs and staff areas around DIT.

What services does the ICTDOMAIN offer me?

Having an ICTDOMAIN account will gain you access to general desktop services, file and printer sharing, wireless internet, 24/7 Password Management, Web Email access and access to many other Institute Applications such as WebCourses.

There are also a number of Federated Access Services which are offered by HeaNET available with your ICTDOMAIN account.  Currently these services include

Filesender - https://filesender.heanet.ie/

Eduroam - http://www.heanet.ie/eduroam allows you to access your DIT resources while at another college.

As the owner of an ICTDOMAIN Account what am I responsible for?

You are responsible for:

·         All use of your ICTDOMAIN account, sharing of accounts is strictly prohibited

·         Keeping your password secret.

·         Changing your password every 90 days.

·         Using "good", complex passwords

Your password is a safety measure employed against unwelcome intrusion into your personal information.  The more complex, secret and often changed your password is, the more you reduce your risk of someone guessing your password, and thereby gaining access to your personal information.

·         You are, at all times, bound by Dublin Institute of Technology’s acceptable usage and IS Security Policies:

Staff regulations governing the use of computer resources

IS security policy
