External Readers

Who may apply?

External membership is open to retired DIT staff, DIT graduates and members of the Graduate Network. Other applicants with particular needs, may apply at the discretion of the College Librarian at each DIT campus. 

How much does it cost?

The fee for external membership is €60 per annum and €40 per annum for members of the Graduate Network. [Fee currently under review]. 

What am I entitled to?

External readers may use any or all of the DIT Libraries for reference and study purposes. In addition they may borrow 2 books for 14 days. Photocopying facilities are also available. External readers do not have access to library computing facilities. Access to online databases, ebooks and e-journals is also precluded as license agreements limit their use to current, registered, DIT staff and students.

How to apply?

  1. Download the External Reader bilingual applicationExternal Reader bilingual application or collect one from any DIT Library.
  2. Present the form in the library, pay the relevant fee by cash or cheque and have the form authorised and signed.
  3. Go to the Student Service Centre (with your signed authorised form) to have your photograph taken and your card produced.

Opening Hours:  

Monday-Thursday : 9am to 1pm  2pm-5pm, and Friday: 9am-1pm 2pm-4pm.
