DIT Grangegorman was a fitting venue for the 2018 Sociological Association of Ireland (SAI) its annual conference entitled ‘Legacies Matter’ on 18 th and 19 th May. The conference was organised locally by outgoing SAI Vice-President, Dr Matt Bowden. Papers were presented by colleagues including Dr Paddy Dolan, Dr Carmel Gallagher and Anne Fitzpatrick. One
hundred delegates attended over the two days. A keynote address was given by Associate Professor at TCD, Dr Damien Brennan on the Legacy of Institutional Confinement. Dr Brennan is subject leader for sociology at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin and a former practicing mental health nurse who trained at St. Brendan’s Hospital, Grangegorman.
