Valerie holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English (université de Toulouse II); a Diploma and a Masters in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (université de Grenoble III); an M.Phil (Linguistics) from Trinity College, Dublin; a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge.
Since 1991 she has taught in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth (now NUIM), Tallaght RTC (now IT Tallaght), LSB College, the French department at Trinity College, Dublin, and the Dublin Institute of Technology which she joined in 1999. Her lecturing duties there have included French for Specific Purposes (Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Business) and French for Professional Purposes; Linguistics, and ESOL.
Research expertise: Learning languages at third level with dyslexia and other learning difficulties; Communicative and functional methodologies, in particular task-based language learning.
