The DIT Learning, Teaching & Technology Centre (LTTC) is located at DIT Aungier St Campus (5th Floor) Dublin 2.
In January 2009, the LTTC was formed with the amalgamation of the Learning & Teaching Centre (LTC) and the Learning Technology Team (LTT).
Our Values
Who we are is a direct result of our professional values informing our practice - since our original establishment in 1999, the LTTC have always valued scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, curriculum and technology practices within and across DIT’s diverse disciplinary contexts - continuing to build this culture is at the heart of our work.
'A teacher affects eternity; he can ne’er tell where his influence stops.'
-- Henry Adams
Through the years, we have built up a knowledge base of observations and our values inform how we approach our role and activities:
- Teaching can be a lonely endeavour - we believe in collaboration in all its forms (developed through consultation), and in programme team building and the nurturing of reciprocal learning experiences;
- Staff are busier now than ever before - we feel that having flexibility, openness and balance should be ingrained in all we do;
- Academics in a large organisation need to feel valued - we know the power of listening and responsiveness, and strive to get feedback on what we do, act on and react to it;
- Bottom-up practices need direction - all LTTC activities seek to align with, and appropriately inform, institutional and national educational policies;
- Integrity, respect, trust, inclusiveness and commitment are the cornerstones of strong working relationships - we resolve to be responsible, transparent, and invite scrutiny on all that we do;
- People can thrive on innovation – we provide stimulation, a passion for exploration and a forward-looking approach to our work; we are always trying new things and learning from them!
- Sharing - we are ideas blenders and engage in and facilitate knowledge exchange in a spirit of generosity by sharing insights into pedagogies and technologies and providing a platform for discussion and research
We can help academic staff develop professionally, but we are not here to develop them - we believe in empowerment; for the individuals, departments, schools and colleges in DIT, we hope to offer inspiration, leadership (by example), creativity, confidence, continual feedback, support and connections.
We consider the future - we are now in a transition phase leading to the proposed merger with ITTD and ITB, and we are working towards consolidating the Centre staff experience and knowledge with that of our colleagues as we work together towards the realisation of the TU4Dublin vision of the future.
