How to take a backup of your Webcourses module
A full backup of webcourses.dit.ie is taken at the end of each academic year and stored for archive purposes. However, it is good practice for lecturers to take your own backup and to download and store this on your own PC or laptop. The instructions are below:
- Log into webcourses.dit.ie as a designer and select the module you wish to backup
- Click into the "Build" tab. On the lower left of the screen you will see "Designer Tools".
- Click on "Manage Course" from the options listed. From the "Manage Course" menu select "Backup". This brings up the "Course Backups" page.
- Click "Back up Course" and click Ok. You will usually get a message saying "Your backup has been added to the queue".
- Wait a couple of moments and then repeat step 3 above to confirm that the status of the backup has changed to "completed". The size of your module will determine how long this takes. Once the status changes to "completed" you can download the file to your own PC/laptop.
- Tick the check box to the left of the backup file name and click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the file name, selecting "save as file". Make a note of the file name and click "Ok" to save the file to your "My Files" area (the "My Files" area will usually appear as the default location).
- Once the file is saved your backups list will appear automatically on screen.
- From the "Designer Tools" menu on the left of your screen select "File Manager". From the "File Manager" screen click on the "My Files" icon towards the middle-top of the screen. Your backup file should appear on the list. Tick the check box to the left of the file name and click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the file name, selecting "download". This will allow you to save the backup file to your own PC or laptop, and the process is complete.
