Light Vehicle Technology Course

Today’s professional automotive technician must possess a thorough understanding of the many complex and differing systems found on the modern motorcar. They must also have an ability to develop communication skills and be able to keep abreast of continuing changes in motor vehicle technology.
The Department of Transport Engineering in Bolton Street provides apprentice motor mechanics with the opportunity to learn the necessary skills and competencies to help in their career objectives. They are trained to achieve the highest standard while attending phase four and six of the standards based apprentice program.
Students are required to attend classes where they study and learn complexities of motor vehicle technology and electronics. The time spent in the workshops allows the apprentice to take part in the practical application of their skills and gain hands on experience in the use of modern test and diagnostic equipment

National Craft Certificate in Light Vehicle Mechanics
Further Studies:
As well as attending their apprenticeship training classes during the day, those who wish to obtain additional qualifications can attend the Intermediate and Advanced Technology courses in the evening.
Evening classes are also provided for students who wish to pursue a career in motor industry management.
Career Opportunities in the Motor Industry:
There are many career opportunities available to the student who has completed an apprentiship and gone on to attend many of the excellent technical and management course run by the DIT. These include that of service advisers, service managers, technical representatives, parts management vehicle assessors and sales representatives.
