Research in nanotechnology occurs in many disciplines of science; physics, chemistry and biology, and in engineering.

Nanolab is an amalgamation of the Physics of Molecular Materials group and the Nanophysics and Surfaces group. The groups activities include:

  • the study of molecular materials such as fullerenes and carbon nanotubes
  • the toxicity of nanoscale materials
  • ab-initio DFT bandstructure calculations

Materials Synthesis
and Analysis

The Materials Synthesis and Analysis groups activities involve:

  • development of metallo-derivatives of cyclodextrins for the chiral resolution of enantiomeric drug formulations
  • nanosized semiconductors as photovoltaics and thermistors
