Michael O'Donnell Memorial Fund
The Michael O'Donnell Memorial Fund was launched in November 2007 and is currently welcoming contributions. The fund was established as a result of a substantial legacy from the estate of the late Michael O'Donnell, a bequest which exemplifies the extent of his commitment to education, to engineering and to the Dublin Institute of Technology.
Michael O'Donnell was a distinguished figure in engineering in Ireland, and a much-loved educationalist. He was the Principal of the former College of Technology in Bolton Street, the first Acting President of Dublin Institute of Technology and was conferred with an Honorary Fellowship of DIT. His career in DIT spanned forty years, during which he was an inspiration to colleagues and students.
The Michael O'Donnell Memorial Fund is established with the purpose of supporting Engineering teaching and research activities at DIT and in particular, the development of new engineering facilities at the new DIT campus in Grangegorman. The Fund is managed by the Board of DIT Foundation, a charitable and tax efficient body, established to promote and support the development of DIT.
Alumni, friends, colleagues and business associates are invited to make contributions to the Fund, which will be open for 12 months. In December 2008 individual donations in excess of €1,000 and corporate donations in excess of €5,000 will be acknowledged in a memorial booklet to be distributed to contributors.
