DIT lecturer elected President of Institute of Designers
10th May 2012: John Walsh, Lecturer in Product and Furniture Design at the School of Art Design and Printing in DIT has been elected President of the Institute of Designers in Ireland.
Celebrating 40 years this year, the Institute of Designers in Ireland is a professional body representing Designers and the Design Industry in Ireland. Its function is to promote high standards of design, to foster professionalism and to emphasise designers’ responsibility to society, to the client and to each other. The Institute represents designers from different disciplines including Product and Industrial Design, Interior and Exhibition Design, Visual Communications, Motion Graphics & Production Design, Digital Media and Fashion and Textile Design. The IDI is recognised at national, EU and international level as the representative body for the Irish design profession.
In his speech, John, who has previously held the post of Product and Industrial Design Representative on the Council of the IDI, looked forward to an exciting year as President, sighting the important role Design has to play in our country’s economic recovery.
