To Dallas and Back – DIT/OU team win Design Build competition
21st March 2012: For a second year running, the Dublin Institute of Technology/Oklahoma University International Design Build Team took first place in the annual Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region V/TEXO Design Build competition sponsored by Sedalco.
The International team of DIT final year Construction Management (DT117) student Paul Murphy, 4th year Architecture student Orla Hayes and 4th year Architectural Technology student Conor Shaw teamed up with three College of Architecture students from Oklahoma University. Kevin Leach and Jonathan Radebaugh (Construction Science) with Bryce McCarthy (Architecture) represented OU in this well established student test.
The competition required the team to respond to a Request For Proposal to provide design-build services for a new Nature Interpretative Center in the Texas area. DIT lecturer Lloyd Scott was mentor to the team. “On the Saturday before the presentation, the team were sequestered on campus for a sixteen hour ‘lockdown’, to develop their proposal. Having finished at midnight, we headed to Texo Headquarters in Dallas where they had to submit their binders and other ancillary material in advance of the 6pm hand-in deadline on Sunday. Then on Monday, 20th February, it was show-time. The team was required to make a thirty-minute presentation to the panel of judges at the TEXO venue. I’m delighted to say they did really well and were placed first, ahead of their International and American counterparts!”
The Irish members of the DIT/OU team are now back in DIT and are inviting students and colleagues to hear about their experience and to see their presentation. The seminar is on Tuesday 27th March, 1 – 2pm, in Room 281, Bolton Street and all are welcome.
