Visit from Finance University Moscow
30th April 2012: An historic agreement was signed by Professor Brian Norton and Rector Mukhadin Eskindarov on 18th April 2012 between the Dublin Institute of Technology and the Finance University under the Government of the Russian Federation. The Rector was accompanied by Professor Vsevolod Dumny, International Advisor and Professor Valery Sumerokov, Head of Department of International Economics. Paul O’ Sullivan, Dean and Director of the College of Business, welcomed the visitors to DIT and confirmed the continued commitment of the Institute to the development of further linkages between the two institutions.
The next stage in the process is the launch of a dual Masters in International Banking & Finance. This programme, already at an advanced stage of design, will be available in both institutions and will confer on successful graduates a Master’s level award from both the DIT and the Finance University. Insights from an information economy such as Ireland and a natural resource rich economy such as the Russian Federation will deliver a unique perspective to potential graduates that will be of interest to employers worldwide. The College of Business hopes to welcome the first students from Moscow on this programme in September 2012.
This agreement is the culmination of significant work over a period of years between the College of Business and the Finance University under the Government of the Russian Federation. Since 2009 staff from the School of Accounting & Finance within the College of Business including Dr Joseph Coughlan and Marie O’ Flynn have given guest lectures at the Finance University. Valentina Tarkovska, Dr Jim Hanly and Dr Lucia Morales have also delivered academic papers at ‘Round Table’ discussions at the Finance Univeristy. Valentina Tarkovska has co chaired a number of webinars in which Academic Staff and Professors shared ideas about joint research projects. As the ‘Green light’ was given to this important relationship, Professor Eskindarov talked about this being the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between DIT and the Finance University in the years to come.
