Invite: Panel Discussion on the Interface between Mathematics and Physics
The Dublin Institute of Technology and the Royal Irish Academy are organising a Panel Discussion on the 'Interface between Mathematics and Physics' as part of their celebration of the Hamilton Year 2005.
The panel will consist of Professor Sir Michael Atiyah, Professor Sir Michael Berry, Professor Luke Drury and Professor Arthur Jaffe; the discussion will be chaired by Professor Brendan Goldsmith.
The synergies between mathematics and physics are widespread and new connections are constantly being made. Nonetheless, there are also tensions between disciplines which have fundamentally different approaches to their respective subject matters. This discussion, which will be broadly based on the Questions & Answers format, will allow the audience raise these issues, and other related matters, with a panel of distinguished experts.
