MUSIC OPEN DAY AT DIT
The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will open its doors to the public on Saturday March 12th from 11.00 a.m.to 3.00 p.m. to present the wide range of musical activities it makes available to people of all ages.
The Open Day will take place at DIT Rathmines Road, and activities will include individual performances by students of various instruments as well as ensemble performances.
Ms Brid Grant, Head of the Conservatory, said the Open Day was an ideal opportunity for parents and prospective students to come to find out what opportunities are available to study at the Conservatory. "My colleagues will be on hand to demonstrate instruments and to answer any questions that parents and students might have - questions like what choice of instruments is available, what is a good age to begin learning music, when should my child start. We will be delighted to talk to people, whether they are starting music tuition for the first time or are thinking of returning to it."
According to Ms Grant, the Kids Music Klub at the Conservatory has children as young as three or four, while 5 - 7 year olds can join the Music Workshop. Children who have an interest in learning a wind instrument may start in the Recorder Class which is for 7 - 11 year olds.
Applications for new students are open until the end of March and vacancies exist for individual tuition in all instruments - keyboard, string, wind or brass.
With a teaching tradition stretching back over a hundred years the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama - which many Dubliners will remember as The Municipal School of Music and later on as the College of Music - has seen many of Dublin's finest musicians pass through its doors. Its graduates include internationally renowned opera singers, instrumental performers and university professors and who have had a major effect on the musical life of Ireland and elsewhere.
