DIT Drama Festival
Dublin 26 February , 2007: The 2007 DIT Drama Festival starts this week and will run for two weeks, organised by the extremely active and talented members of the Drama Society. The drama society on each campus site will perform for three nights and the programme includes a selection of well-known and original works. Students, staff and members of the public are invited to attend all performances which will take place in the Teachers' Club, Parnell Square. The curtain goes up at 8pm each evening.
According to the President of the Drama Society, Karen Clancy, the programme is one of the most ambitious the Society has undertaken. "From the start of the academic year the DIT Drama Society organises drama workshops, sound and lighting workshops and encourages members in the art of set and costume design. Members also get a chance to use their own original writing and watch it come to life when the curtain is raised. Each production will be judged by an experienced judging panel and awards will be presented at the DIT Drama festival awards on the 11th March."
And the drama doesn't end there. The winner of the Best Production title goes forward to the Irish Student Drama Awards at Queens University in Belfast the 13th to 17th March. The overall DIT Drama Society, with members from each campus site drama society, will also bring their production of Harold Pinter's "The Hothouse" to Belfast, representing DIT at the ISDA 2007 Festival.
So, if you want to see the emerging acting stars in DIT, as Karen Clancy says: "Come along and enjoy the art of drama @ the DIT Drama Festival 2007".

"Breaking the Wish bone" written by Siobhan Parkinson. Directed by Maebh Horan-Murphy
Picture this. A group of youngsters with nowhere to go, nothing much to do, making the best shift they can in the circumstances. See it as a documentary, if you like, heads to camera, as they piece together their stories, how they got here, why they left, where they were before, what's happening for them now, where they hope they're going. You don't have to see it our way, of course. You can see it anyway you like - viewers' prerogative.
