Music Open Day at The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama

The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will open its doors to the public on Saturday, March 03rd (2007) from 11.00a.m. to 3.00p.m. to present the wide range of musical activities which it makes available to people of all ages.

The Open Day will take place at The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Rathmines Road (next door to Rathmines Public Library). In addition to having the opportunity to explore the many learning opportunities offered by the Conservatory, visitors will enjoy individual and ensemble performances by students of all ages.

Ms. Bríd Grant, Head of Conservatory, said the Open Day is an ideal opportunity for parents and prospective students of all ages to come and discover the wide range of study opportunities available at the Conservatory. "Teachers will be on hand to demonstrate instruments and to answer any questions that parents and students might have - questions like: What choice of instruments is available? What is a good age to begin learning music? We will be delighted to talk to people, whether they are starting music for the first time or are thinking of returning to it."

According to Ms. Grant, the Conservatory's programmes offer a great range of learning opportunities. In addition to individual tuition in the broadest range of instruments and voice, the Kids Club on Saturday mornings has children as young as three, while five to seven year olds can join the Music Workshop. Children with an interest in learning a wind instrument may start in the Recorder Class which is for seven to eleven year olds.

Applications for the '07 / '08 Academic year are open until Friday 16th March and vacancies exist for individual tuition in all instruments - keyboard, string, wind, brass, percussion, and voice.

With a tradition stretching back over a hundred years, the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama - which many Dubliners will remember as The Municipal School of Music and later as the College of Music - has produced many of Ireland's finest musicians. Its graduates include internationally renowned instrumentalists, opera singers and university professors. It has made and continues to make an invaluable contribution to musical and cultural life in Ireland and abroad.
