DIT Open Days
The event offers an opportunity for students, parents and guidance counsellors to attend talks, visit stands, talk to lecturers and current students about programmes that interest them and about college life in DIT.
Head of Admissions in DIT, Frank Costello says “We use this two-day event to showcase our extensive range of professional, career focused programmes, delivered across all of our disciplines, including key areas in the sciences and health; business and media; hospitality, tourism and culinary arts; engineering and all aspects of the built environment; visual and performing arts; social care and early education. We invite anyone considering going to college next year to come along to find out more about options that interest them, as well as programmes they haven’t even considered yet! Lecturers and current students will be at every stand to give visitors a realistic picture of programme content and delivery, and our Admissions team are on hand to advise on entry routes.”
As well as the wide choice of programmes, DIT also offers a wide range of entry routes at Level 6, 7 and 8 with obvious pathways to higher levels in each case. There is also a range of supports for those returning to education as mature students; students from backgrounds of economic disadvantage; and those with a physical or learning disability.
According to Costello, “Open Day in DIT is a bit like a Fair Day– busy, useful and fun. Sometimes students come on their own or with friends, but often with their parents too. With that in mind, we offer a special session for parents on the Saturday to give them as much information and guidance as we can so they can help their student son or daughter to make the best decision. Transition to college from secondary school can be challenging for some students and sometimes for parents too. Breaking down the steps and reassuring them about what’s ahead can be helpful in avoiding some of the typical pitfalls!”
