Employment Choices made easier at DIT

Job hunting on the net is now a serious business that attracts a large percentage of both job seekers and employers. In response to the ever increasing popularity of this method of job hunting Choice@dit.ie has been launched by Dublin Institute of Technology's Careers Service. This new website provides graduates and students of the Institute with access to a hassle free, dedicated job information and careers advice site. It also provides a one-stop-shop for employers to recruit some of Ireland's best and brightest graduates from a broad range of disciplines.

According to Margaret Daly, DIT Employer Liaison Officer: "This is a radical new approach to the provision of job information and puts the Institute at the leading edge of developments in this area. Clients using the website will be taken through a sequential, structured approach and will engage with information that is focused on where they are at their particular stage of development."

Essentially, the aim of the website is to make job searching easier and more efficient through the use of leading technology, which has proven to be a great success on similar sites in countries such as the UK, US and Australia. Choice is in essence a targeted hiring vehicle as it eliminates a lot of the traditional paperwork and hassle in the recruitment process. Employers or graduates anywhere in the world can avail of the service, which eliminates geographical, physical, and time constraints that can be imposed on the recruitment procedure - unlike the traditional Careers Fair the Virtual Careers Fair can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any location.

Choice encompasses a number of services to both job seekers and employers including the opportunity for employers to notify final year students and recent graduates of employment opportunities as they arise in their organisations. In excess of 2000 final year student and graduate CV's can be searched by registered companies. In addition, employers can provide job vacancy details, a direct link to their website and a facility for job applications to be sent via email, online or by post.

The website has also been completely redesigned and restructured to allow students to access appropriate information and services according to their individual needs. This is part of DIT's commitment to the idea of being a DIT graduate for life and to it s enhancement and support of its many links to industry.

Potential employers who wish to recruit staff in an easy, cost effective and efficient manner via this service can access relevant graduate information by logging onto www.choiceatdit.ie
