National Bakery School Seminar

In response to the huge interest in its Professional Baking Programme DIT's National Bakery School (NBS) recently held a seminar entitled "The Irish Bakery Industry, Education & Training - the future". The seminar, which took place in DIT Kevin Street, attracted notable industry figures such as Myrtle Allen of Ballymaloe and members of the prestigious British Confectioners' Association.

The days proceedings began with a presentation by Derek O'Brien, Head of the Department of Baking Technology in DIT on the future of education and training in the Irish Bakery Industry. This was followed by a number of presentations by NBS lecturing staff on unique Irish and European specialties including Irish soda breads, classic French breads and German-Swiss Konditorei.
