Sean Dorgan appointed as Chair of DIT's Governing Body

The Minister for Education and Science, Mr. Noel Dempsey TD, today announced the appointment of Mr. Sean Dorgan as the new Chairperson of DIT's Governing Body. Mr. Dorgan is Chief Executive of IDA Ireland.

Commenting on the appointment, Minister Dempsey said "Since his appointment as Chief Executive of IDA Ireland, Mr. Dorgan has led steps to add to Ireland's competitive advantages in knowledge-based activities, especially through enhancement of skill and research capabilities and in flexible and speedy operating conditions." He went on to say that in a time of great change and development in Irish education, Mr. Dorgan will bring his vast experience and expertise to bear in guiding and supporting the continued development of DIT "as one of the most important institutions in the future of higher education in Ireland".

Professor Brian Norton, President of Dublin Institute of Technology, wholeheartedly welcomed the appointment. He said "I am delighted to learn of the Minister's appointment. Sean Dorgan has very publicly demonstrated his keen appreciation of the role of higher education in the development of Ireland's future as a knowledge-based economy, and it is an honour for the Institute that he has accepted the position of Chairperson. His standing, both nationally and internationally, will serve to further enhance the Institute's reputation and he will be a tremendous force in DIT's exciting future development."

Mr. Dorgan's appointment follows the retirement of the previous Chairperson, Professor Pat Fottrell.
