DIT Drama Students present Brecht

The final year drama students in DIT's Conservatory of Music and Drama will present Bertolt Brecht's 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle' at The Theatre in DIT Rathmines next week, in a production directed by Susie Kennedy.

The play is descibed an epic masterpiece of modern drama.  In telling the story of Grusha, a fugitive adoptive mother caught in the upheavals of revolution and counter-revolution, Brecht emphasises not only her personal plight but the complex relationship between people's choices and the social circumstances in which the choices are made. This is conveyed with particular irony and outrageousness in the scenes with Azdak, the judge-cum-court jester who eventually finds Grusha's fate in his hands.

The play is populated with a wide variety of characters, providing multiple opportunities for actors to explore and create the micro-world of each character and to investigate each character's role in the broader world of the play.  Above all, it is a story full of suspense, pathos and humour.

The production is directed by Susie Kennedy, with set design by Brien Vahey, costume design by Marie Tierney and lighting design by Dave O'Leary.
