DIT showcases its Academic Innovators

Thursday, 06th May 2004

The Dublin Institute of Technology today presented its Annual Showcase of Learning and Teaching Innovations.  Now a firm fixture in the DIT Diary, the showcase represents a significant platform for DIT to highlight and celebrate innovations and best practice that are happening across the Institute. Over 200 delegates, representing all of the faculties of DIT, were present at the Showcase.

Keynote speakers included Prof. Sally Brown, Director of Membership Services for the Institute for Learning & Teaching and Prof. Gina Wisker, Director for Learning and Teaching Development at APU in Cambridge and Essex.  DIT academics who are involved in innovative ways of supporting student learning also made presentations.

The main topics addressed were those of Work-based learning; Student retention, Induction, and 'Fit for purpose' assessment. In addition, students of the Institute who recently conducted an extensive survey on student induction presented their results at the Showcase.

Opening the Showcase, Professor Brian Norton, DIT President said; "This showcase is about raising awareness and providing support and encouragement to academic staff in DIT who are using innovative teaching and learning methods to meet the changing needs of today's students and the students of the future".
