Blood Wedding

a passionate tragedy of love and deathby Federico García Lorca

In the world of Lorca's southern Spain, marriage is a contract which binds bride and groom to land transactions between families.  When passion intervenes, it threatens to shatter the entire social order . . .

Federico García Lorca is considered one of the greatest playwrights of the twentieth century.  In his life and works, he flew in the face of conventional morality, drama and theatre.  He challenged the traditions of Spanish society directly, publicly and poetically, ultimately leading to his execution by Franco's fascists in 1936, at the outset of the Spanish Civil War.

Blood Wedding brings social conventions of marriage and honour into sharp relief against raw human passion.  It is a drama of intense lyricism and beauty.

The production is directed by Peter McDermott, with set design by Fiona Leech, costume design by Marie Tierney and lighting design by Moyra D'Arcy.
