Immigrant Entrepreneurship Initiative

An exciting and innovative collaboration has been set up between the Centre for Transcultural Research and Media Practice (Dr Alan Grossman and Dr Áine O'Brien), the Graduate Business School (Dr James Urquhart and Dr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah), Legal Studies (Bruce Carolan), and multicultural newspaper, Metro Eireann (Chinedu Onyejelem).

This interdisciplinary initiative will examine immigrant entrepreneurship as an emerging phenomenon in Ireland, signalling an important shift in the social integration of immigrants into Irish cultural life.  The initiative was announced in the current May edition of Metro Eireann. The subject of new immigrant entrepreneurs has been profiled on the front page of the Independent (Business section, 19 May) under the title 'Ireland's New Business Community' .

A conference is currently being planned for 2006 at DIT-Aungier Street. Details to follow.
