A conference on the future of the EU Constitutional Treaty will take place in DIT Aungier Street on 05 May 2006, just six weeks ahead of the EU Council meeting in Vienna on 15-16 June. The conference aims to contribute to public debate on critical constitutional and political issues that should inform the discussion of the future of the Treaty at the EU Council meeting.

The conference is organised by the Legal Studies department in DIT.  The opening session will be chaired by the Hon. Mr. Justice Nial Fennelly, Judge of the Supreme Court and speakers will be Minister Noel Treacy TD, Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Martin Territt, Director of the European Commission's Representation in Ireland.  Other speakers will include His Excellency Frédéric Grasset, Ambassador of France to Ireland; Mr. Gay Mitchell, TD and MEP; and Mr. Brendan Halligan, Chair of the Institute of European Affairs.

The conference will take place from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm on Friday 05 May at DIT Aungier Street.  Participation fee is €40 (students €20). To register, please contact stephen.carruthers@dit.ie
