New Evening course in Diet, Nutrition and Health

This 10-week course has been developed to provide learners with an introduction to the principles of nutrition and health. Candidates will initially study nutritional science including physiology, biochemistry and metabolism.

The function of individual nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, alcohol, vitamins and minerals) will be examined in detail, and their role in health and disease explored. Other lifestyle behaviours influencing health will also be discussed.

The fundamentals of food science and its role in nutrition will also be examined. Finally, the role nutrition and lifestyle in common disorders including obesity, cardiovascular/heart disease and cancer will be discussed.

The course will commence on Tuesday 21st of March and will run on Tuesday evenings from 6.30-9.30pm for a total of ten weeks. It will conclude with a final examination of 1 hour duration on Tuesday 30th May, successful completion of which will entitle candidates to 5 ECTS credits.

The cost of this course is €700.00, payable by cheque, postal order or bank draft at registration from 6.00pm on Tuesday 21st March. This fee should be accompanied by 2 passport size photographs. Places on this course will be strictly limited.
