DIT Sports Scholarship Presentation Dinner

The DIT Sports Scholarship Presentation Dinner took place on Tuesday 5th December in DIT Aungier Street. On the night Mr. Sean Kelly, former GAA President and newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Institute of Sport, presented 27 new sports scholarships to students selected for their exceptional sporting ability. This brings the total number of sports scholars participating on the programme to ninety four this year.

The DIT Sports Scholarship Programme aims to support men and women of outstanding sporting ability who have the talent and dedication to combine an academic course with excellence in sport. Since its inception in 2000 the Institute has awarded over 110 sports scholarships across a wide variety of sports including; archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, camogie, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, downhill mountain biking, equestrian, gaelic football-men, gaelic football-women, golf, handball, hockey, hurling, motor sport, rowing, rugby, soccer-men, soccer-women, swimming & waterpolo, table-tennis and taekwon-do.

Some of Ireland's new sporting figures who have just completed the programme include: David Gillick (European Champion 400m, 2005), Lee Murphy (World Student Games - Equestrian gold medalist), Tom Walsh (Leinster & Carlow Gaelic Football).

Taekwon-Do: Sarah Moore (Meath)
