The DIT Thomas Moore Festival for Young Singers will take place between 14th and 22nd January 2008, providing performance and recording opportunities for young singers aged between 18 and 26, born or living on the island of Ireland for a minimum of 18 months.  A number of bursaries, ranging in value from €500 - €2000 will be awarded to male and female singers, chosen from among the participants.  Bursary holders will be invited to perform at concerts in Dublin and around the country throughout 2008, and may be chosen to participate on the commercially released commemorative CD My Gentle Harp to be issued by RTE lyric fm.  The Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin Institute of Technology will host the preliminary rounds and a gala evening concert will be held at the end of the festival at the National Concert Hall.  Bursary holders will also be invited to participate in the recording of all 124 of Moore's Irish Melodies in their original settings.  These recordings will be included in the Thomas Moore Hypermedia Archive and will be universally available for free download from the archive's website.

Awards will be made only for the interpretation of Moore's Irish Melodies.  Please note that Moore's original melodies must be used, although songs may be presented in arrangements of the performer's choice.
