Dublin Institute of Technology Launch Health Awareness Week

A healthy start to college life for students!

Dublin Institute of Technology's inaugural Health Awareness Week is currently taking place across all DIT campuses and runs until Friday 5th October. The aim of the week is to promote healthy lifestyles among students. The start of the college year can be a stressful time for students and healthy routines often get pushed to one side. To combat this the Institute is offering students opportunities to get into a healthy routine, whether that means cycling to college, taking up a new hobby or giving up smoking.

According to Niamh O'Callaghan, Sports Officer in DIT, "Students establish their routines very early on in the first term of college. This year we decided to hold a Health Awareness Week to help both students and staff to get into healthy habits now and build them into their busy lives. The timetable of events for the week includes something for literally everyone - from taking time out to meditate to taking the bike to college, and from using the indoor fitness route for getting round campus to taking the 'quit smoking' challenge!"

Highlights of Health Awareness Week include opportunities for students to get involved in a range of activities including:

  • Bike to College Day
  • Smoking Cessation Workshops
  • Demonstrations of Capoeira and Breakdancing
  • Yoga, Tai-Chi and Pilates
  • "Mind Ur Head"
  • Beer Goggles Demo
  • Inter-college Exercise Off
