DIT Clubs and Soc Festival 2007

The DIT Annual Clubs and Societies Festival takes place from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th of September. During the week students right across DIT will have the opportunity to meet committee members to find out what each club or society does and to decide which ones they would like to join.

The provision of clubs and societies, run by students for students, has been a cornerstone of the DIT Student activities since its inception. There are now 120 registered clubs and societies ranging from national societies, to those related to specific study areas, from campaigning, political, or religious, to performing arts, training and recreational. There are also 15 special events which involve a huge amount of coordination and participation.

HEA guidelines for student services support structures highlight the need for opportunities for personal development and well-being among third-level students and for support measures that extend beyond the traditional academic remit of institutions. According to DIT Societies Organiser, Anita Conway 'In DIT our student support services and activities are based on a philosophy of enablement and empowerment of students. We aim to achieve maximum participation by developing the community on campus through provision of entertainment, media, social and other campus services and amenities; and support for a wide variety student led groups, societies, associations and student sport.'

The 2007 Festival, organised by the DIT Sports Office and Societies Office, is bigger and better than ever and a record number of sign-ups is predicted. The message is simple - GET INVOLVED!
