DIT Conservatory Concerts at National Concert Hall - May 20th and 23rd

DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama celebrates the achievements of its prize-winning students in two concerts at the National Concert Hall next week: DIT Conservatory Prize-Winners Concert (Tuesday 20th May, 6pm) and Summer Opera (Friday 23rd May, 1.05pm).

DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Prize-Winners Concert

John Field Room, National Concert Hall
Tuesday 20th May, 6pm

On Tuesday 20th May at 6pm the Annual Prize-Winners Concert takes place.  The concert features solo and chamber music performances by junior, undergraduate and postgraduate students, performing a wide range of repertoire for voice, piano, strings, wind and percussion.  Musicians featuring in the concert include:

Final-year BMus traditional accordionist, Martin Tourish, who was recently awarded the TG4 Gradam Ceoil (Traditional Music Awards) Young Musician of the Year.  This major award was presented by legendary piper, Liam O?Flynn, at a televised award ceremony in March at the INEC, Killarney.  Martin studies classical accordion at the Conservatory with Dermot Dunne and traditional accordion with Dermot Byrne.  His is a member of the DIT Irish Traditional Music Ensemble and features on the highly-acclaimed CD from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, ?Flow My Tears?, which commemorated the Flight of the Earls.

Soprano, Katy Kelly received the €10,000 Feis Ceoil IAWS John McCormack Bursary.  Katy graduated with the Master of Music Degree from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.  She will sing the role of ?Queen of the Night? in DIT?s opera production of Mozart?s The Magic Flute in October 2008.

On Friday 23rd May at 1.05pm, the prize-winning Opera Ensembles of the Conservatory of Music and Drama return to the Field Room of the NCH for an exciting lunchtime programme of well-loved scenes from:
