Association for Chinese Studies in Ireland Annual Conference

30th January 2009

Story Ireland-China conference

The second annual conference of the Association for Chinese Studies in Ireland takes place next Saturday 7th February in Dublin Institute of Technology, hosted by the DIT School of Languages.  The conference, entitled ?China: Back to the Centre?? will consider a fascinating range of issues, from China and the world economy to a comparative study of Chinese and Irish nationalism.

Dr. Hélene Conway, Head of the DIT School of Languages, said "My colleagues and I are delighted to host this conference. The issues under consideration are of great interest to Ireland, whether we are talking about the economy and business opportunities, or language studies, or social issues. More and more Irish students are choosing Chinese Studies, which reflects the importance of gaining greater understanding of China. In DIT, we offer an honours degree programme in Chinese and International Business which provides graduates with the language and business skills either to work in China or to work with organisations that do business with China. In their third year students take a placement abroad, and currently a number of DIT students are spending the year in China which is a fascinating experience for them."

The one-day conference takes place on 07 February 2009 in DIT Aungier Street, Dublin 2. Registration commences at 08.45 and the programme concludes at 17.00 hrs. For further details please contact
