The Lord Mayor of Dublin City, Cllr Emer Costello was guest of honour at the DIT Christmas Carol Service which took place on December 9th in St. Dympna?s Oratory in the grounds of St. Brendan?s Hospital, Grangegorman. Organised by the DIT Chaplaincy Service, the theme of the service was ?We are a Gifted People?, reminding us that each one of us is a gift from God, and that we are called to share our giftedness with others.

The Oratory was full for the event, with guests including students, current and former staff of DIT, colleagues and residents of St. Brendan?s Hospital, and people from the locality of Grangegorman. Free buses, were organised by the chaplaincy service to bring staff and students of DIT from various sites around the city to Grangegorman.

The seventy-strong DIT Choral Society, under conductor, Mr. Roy Holmes, raised the spirts of the audience with their singing of many traditional carols including ?The First Nowell?, ?In the Bleak Mid-Winter?, ?Hark the Herald Angels Sing?, and many more. Highlights included a duet (Jennifer Hughes Mezzo, and Niall Gallagher, tenor) of. J.S. Bach?s Magnificat, and a powerful performance of ?Go tell it on the mountains?. Carols were interspersed with Readings from Sacred Scripture, reflections, a time of meditation and a presentation of gifts.

Thanking the Choral Society and all those who had contributed to the evening, Sr. Mary Flanagan, Coordinator of the Chaplaincy Service, mentioned in particular the staff at St Brendan?s Hospital at Grangegorman and the Grangegorman Development Agency, without whose help and cooperation the event would not have been possible.

As has become the tradition after the Carol Service, everyone was invited to enjoy some warm mulled juice and mince pies.
