Hosted by DIT Students Learning With Communities the CARS initiative involves  students using their subject skills to explore different aspects of road safety and to design new and effective ways to communicate with young drivers, especially males in the 17-25 age bracket.

The students involved this year came from a variety of disciplines including Chemistry, Marketing, Tourism Marketing, Environmental Health, Automotive Management and Technology. As the projects which the students develop for CARS are DIT course-specific, the students received course credits for their work (see the Programme for Students Learning With Communities at for more information on this type of community based learning project).

There was a great student turn out for the event, with students learning about road safety from the exhibits created by their fellow-students. Also 56 students participated in a Krypton Factor Style Road Safety Challenge, and others took part in a raffle for a bicycle generously donated by Dublin City Council.

Various bodies with an interest in communicating and promoting messages of road safety were also present on the day ? Dublin City Council, Veolia Transport, REVA Electric Car, AXA, Drink Aware, DITSU, DIT Societies, DIT Chaplaincy and DIT Health Centre.

Thanks to all students and lecturers, speakers, sponsors and contributors for making this a very worthwhile College Awareness of Road Safety Showcase event.
