for Technical Staff in Higher Institutions in Ireland in June.

The 2009 summer event of the Development Programme for Technical Staff in Higher Education Institutions across Ireland was hosted by DIT and took place in Kevin Street on 15th & 16th June. It was attended by 97 technical staff who each participated in up to three workshops on a range of topics covering Energy and the Environment, Sustainability, Health & Safety, Management Skills, Teaching Skills and Information Technology ? there were fifteen workshops in total. The content of the workshops was determined from the results of surveys of technical staff and their managers.

The event was hugely successful with many of the participants commenting on how beneficial they found the event in terms of improving their skills, and knowledge and providing the opportunity to network and meet with colleagues from across the sector.

Ronan Leydon, Technical Officer, School of Biological Sciences & Phil Kenna, DIT Staff Training & Development Officer are members of the National Steering Group. The Group wish to express their appreciation to DIT for hosting the event, in particular, Professor Michael Devereux, Acting Director & Dean of Faculty of Science for his support and making the opening address; DIT staff who delivered many of the workshops; the IT staff, the Porters & maintenance staff, the Chaplaincy, Photographer, Administration staff and College Catering Services who helped with all the arrangements and ensured that all ran smoothly.

The Technical Development Programme is co-ordinated through NUI Maynooth ? full details are available on their web site:
