Launch of DIT Access Programme

Story inner city schools

An enhanced DIT Access Programme for Dublin Inner City schools will be launched on 19th May in DIT Aungier St.

This enhanced programme will be delivered in thirteen second level schools in the Dublin inner city area that are linked to the DIT Access Service.

The aim of the programme is to increase the number of students from schools in inner city Dublin entering and completing higher education by introducing an intensive programme of activities in those schools.
To achieve this aim the enhanced programme will:

  • Take place in schools and in DIT ? with involvement of staff from all faculties in DIT
  • Involve every student (and their families) in each of the thirteen schools
  • Take a staged approach - work done in each consecutive year with students will build on the previous.
  • Address the complex range reasons why students may not access higher education (confidence and self esteem, finance, academic requirements for college, difference between home, school and community cultures and knowledge about college)
  • Involve role models ? current access students will play a big role in the delivery of the programme.
During the event Access Service Achievement Awards will be presented to students from DIT link schools.
